I am a pretty slow reader compared to most people I know. Part of the reason is because I say (very quietly) each word as I read it. If I try reading silently, I have a tendency to skip over and/or transpose words and completely lose the meaning of the sentence, so I end up having to reread the same thing several times. Also, I have to "translate" the words into a mental picture or video to understand them. So, overall, much slower processing time.
If I run into a significant error in a sentence, I get somewhat confused and feel like my brain throws up the equivalent of a syntax error message, and I have to stop and reason out what it was supposed to have said.
If I come across a term I don't recognize, I have to stop and look it up. This, in certain cases, leads to me doing quite a bit of research to understand the underlying concepts associated with the term.
Does anyone else have similar experiences?
