A friend said to me once "you sit in a room on your own with no one giving a s**t about you then you only have yourself to blame for that."

How was my friend trying to help me with that comment?

I think he/she was trying to create a unpleasant scenario, to inspire you to go out and meet people. He/she is indirectly saying that if you want contact with others, you should get out and do it and not wait for someone to come to you.

What Tesla said. And its good to realize not all people are helpful or think they need to be helpful. They think they make it on their own and that you should too.

It's hard to know their internal intention.

Use this opportunity for some self-reflection.
eg. Are you lonely?
Do you spend too much time alone?
Are you unhappy with you social life? or lack of same?
Do other care about you?
Do you show others that you care about them?
and so on....

this is a chance for you to grow
be well :)
