Chair breaking down

So, I had bought this... not quite cheap chair... and a year and a half later it breaks from near a rest joint, and later on completely came off so if I rested on it it immediately fell...

All I did is rest my back as comfortably as possible...

Are chairs not really worth spending much money on as they're always going to end up breaking?

I have never heard about a chair breaking so easily. Even those very cheap plastic chairs usually last longer than a year and a half. You must have bought a faulty one. I'm sure you have a warranty. You should take it back to the store you bought it from to get it repaired or replaced.

I have heard about a toilet seat breaking when an obese person sat on it. Obviously it was his fault. The toilet seat wasn't designed to support such a heavy person for a long period of time.

I don't know who has been sitting on your chair since you bought it. If an excessively weighty person has been using it, that might void the warranty.

I broke an office chair once when I was a morbidly obese child. My mother called the manufacturer and they sent a steel base.
