I believe no one ever truly knows themselves, let alone others. You may think you know yourself very well but... how would you react if you were in a bank and masked gunmen suddenly raced into the bank pointing a shotgun at your head, yelling and carrying on? You don't know. How would you react if you were miles out at sea on a sinking boat that only had 2 life jackets and there were 3 or more people on board and not getting a life jacket meant certain death? How would you react?

So, to say you don't even fully know yourself, how are we supposed to know other people? We don't! How can you trust others?

The only factor that would make me even consider my life above another person's is because of my family. If they weren't in the equation I'd sacrifice myself. No question about it. Whoever lives instead of me would do better for the world than I would.

That's a sad thing to say. You're just as important as the next person.

Just because you can't fully predict your reaction to extreme and unlikely situations, doesn't mean you can't know your own tendencies and habits in more ordinary and likely ones. You can know enough about yourself and others to predict their behavior in most cases, and that's good enough. Only an omniscient God could know everything about a person or thing.
