Anyone else saw a wolf? I did.

Wolves are not rare in Finland where I am from. We have them. But the way this one behaved, is.

I was taking my litter bag to this (how do you call it), and there I was, eye to eye, with a wolf. All I could utter, was "nice wolf, you hungry"? I swear he nodded. Like saying, go fetch. Which I did. I took some fish lef-overs and gave them to him.
This is not all. I have been dreaming about wolves, perhaps intrigued by another thread (thank you, Sylkat) where they are mentioned. Mentioned.

I saw a deer. It was dead because someone already ran it over. It was in the middle of the road. We had to drive over to the opposite lane to avoid it. Almost hit another car too.

Wow, it would have been amazing to experience such contact with a wild animal!

Only time I saw wolves was in a zoo.

There's only ever coyotes here. They come into the city and eat whet they can find (including pets) because the mountains are that parched.

Deer too. A friend of my teacher saw two big, majestic deer drinking out of her artificial pond. They did not care that people were staring at them from the window and taking pictures.

I saw a few of them six months ago in the zoo. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to give them any left overs, but I think they nodded to me nonetheless as well.

I saw a wolf once. I was spending most of my time in one building and sleeping in another. I was getting ready to go to the other building and go to bed, but when I opened the door there was a wolf not far in front of it staring at me...I closed the door and slept on the couch. But there was a man who lived nearby and raised wolves, so it could've been an escaped pet.

I've seen wolves and coyotes and foxes... but mostly only at the wildlife park. I don't think it's a good idea to feed wolves or wild animals in general even if they appear friendly. I read about how they lose their fear of humans and are more likely to attack people than keep their distance. We're not really allowed to even feed the ducks at the park ponds anymore because they won't migrate and since most people don't come feed them in the winter they could starve. I still see plenty of ducks at the ponds in winter though, even when there's hardly any place to swim. And of course there's all the diseases and parasites wild animals could be carrying.

Aren't they dangerous? If a wild wolf sees you out in the forest or somewhere, won't it attack you? Or are they not big enough to attack a grown human beings? Or do they only attack other animals when in pack?

I have never seen a wild wolf. I have seen wild kangaroos though.

Jkl. Several things come to my mind.

Yes, they are dangerous. Yes, they eat you. No, you cannot have one as pet. Yes, they are gray. No, they dont wag their tail. And yes, I saw one.

Used to hike alot on the C&O Canal near Washington DC. Saw beavers, a muskrat, assorted snakes, toads, a four foot long snapping turtle, osprey, a family of bald eagles, grebes, comorants, kingfishers, hummingbirds, and huge piliated woodpeckers.

When I delivered newspapers at night in the suburbs I saw deer every night, and red foxes evey night. And even once gunned my engine to race alongside a wild canid critter that Im 90 percent sure was a coyote.

Never saw a wolf in the wild though.

I've seen coyotes or coywolves or 'algonquin wolves' or whatever you want to call the large canids that are common in southwest Ontario. I've never seen a grey wolf except for at a zoo, they're quite a bit bigger than the "too-small-to-be-a-coyote-too-big-to-be-a-wolf' wild dogs around here.

I walked right by one when I was living in Reno, Nevada, right outside my apartment building. There were rabbits everywhere, and the wolves would come into the city to find food. I later saw footage that someone had filmed of a few wolves running around downtown LA, so I guess it's not all too uncommon an experience. I've been told that they're practically harmless if there's just one or two of them, which seemed to be the case, since the one that ran past me seemed to be making an effort to avoid me.

I read the part I put in bold as "there was a man who lived nearby who was raised by wolves" I had to look twice!
Anyway, I would have been startled if a wolf near the door. You don't expect that.

That's true. It can make migrating animals stay (and freeze or starve to death), and it can create dangerous situations with bigger predators. Bears approaching picnic sites for leftovers and trash bins with food is one example of unintentional feeding that can lead to dangerous encounters. On Svalbard there is a problem when polar bears approach the settlement looking for food.

jk1, one wolf is unlikely to attack. Wolf attacks on humans are rare. But they can.
In 2011 there were 2 wolves that attacked a Swedish family (a couple with a baby). The family dog was killed.
In 2012 a Swedish zoo worker was killed by a pack of wolves in the zoo.

Wolf-dog hybrids are the most dangerous ones though, as they seldom fear people but are not domesticated.
