Hallowe'en: another ruined holiday?

I've always liked the dressing up - the 1 day when you can be someone else - and the tricks and treats. However between vampires and zombies the whole year through anymore and ubiquitous cornball decor like spiders, skulls and bats I find myself losing the appetite for associating myself with yet another day subjugated by trendy people who chomp at the bit to show the world their 'quirky' personalities - another way of screaming "look at ME!" without saying a word. Almost the same reason I had to stop liking comic books.

Ironically at the moment a radio gasbag is announcing a list of tasteless costumes for this year, including dead celebrities. I hate them for stealing my day

People will always look for an outlet to soothe their ego issues. You don't have to involve yourself, but it also doesn't have to be a factor. I attended a costume party last saturday. Several people (both male and female) had costumes mostly trying to flaunt their sexuality, I saw way more boobs and men in tights then I ever could of wanted to in one night. But I instead chose to ignore it, several girls had incredibly cute and original costumes and one guy was on stilts, in full makeup and had a brilliant groot costume. He even spoke in character (which, of course, he said nothing short of I am groot.) We had a good time, listened to good music, and spent most of the night socializing among mutual friends. That's all it has to be about.

People will always look for a reason to commercialize a holiday, or a reason to hate the holiday. No matter how commercial christmas is, just remember it's about making the loved ones in your family happy and spending time as a family, since it probably doesn't happen often. Same with halloween, just spend it with friends, make the children happy with candy handouts, enjoy it how YOU want to enjoy it.

Why cant you spend the day away from all of that? I imagine for Halloween I will probably wear some kind of costume not really sure what probably nothing all that impressive....and go hang out with people probably outside and get stoned, maybe have a couple beers and if the moon is cool then obviously stay into the night and look at it or something like that. Also though or you could laugh at people trying to be trendy on halloween...better than being too horribly bitter about it since either way that's still going to take place.

I also don't get why people stop liking something just because some people are all trendy about it or whatever. I mean I like metal I am not going to stop wearing metal t-shirts just because some people who don't even know what metal is get one at hot topic cause it looks cool but have never heard the band....or I could let them ruin it and be even more miserable and not listen to metal, which would suck. As for clothing with things like spiders/skulls and what not outside of Halloween, well a lot of people just like them...I like stuff like that even when its not Halloween.

I don't really pay attention to what others do. I just like the decorations an getting candy. I didn't even know that other stuff existed.
