Is anyone here interested in South Asian history and culture? South Asia meaning India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. I need people to discuss this with

Yes I am. I have never been to any of these countries, but for some reason India has always fascinated me. I like Buddhism and its peacefull ways, I like indian cuisine and I like India's history (Hurrah for king Ashoka!). Also the devanagari script looks pretty to me.

The history mainly: the mysterious Indus/Harappa civilization, the arrival of the Arrians and Sankrit, the great empires of old (Maurya, Gupta etc), the Mughal empire and British India. History has been my special interest since early childhood. I first got interested in India somewhere in Elementary school, as part of my history obsession (My interest sort of 'hops' from period to period and region to region).
Despite the terrible things that happen and have happened in India, I imagine it at as a sort of Paradise on Earth, not sure why. That's why I get excited when I read or hear something about India. I think the country has a lot of potential, just look at the fact that they recently put a object in Mars's orbit!

Do you prefer modern- or historic South Asia?

I've never been into religion because I'm an atheist. Curiously, I did get into the Indian religion Jainism. I like a lot of their tenets and principles and practice them in my life. This includes vegetarianism, ahimsa (non-violence), no lying, no stealing and non-possessiveness.

The South Asian area is quite interesting both from an historical and a contemporary standpoint.
