Hair colors and textures are weird in my family. My dad and I share blonde hair, though his hair greyed as he aged and looks silverish now, while my sister has brown hair and my mum has dark brown hair (that used to be a lighter shade of brown in young adulthood). My paternal grandfather had black hair while my paternal grandmother had blonde hair and my maternal grandfather had brown hair that greyed as he aged while my maternal grandmother had increasingly darker brown colors as she got older, just like my mum.
Texture-wise, my mum, dad, and I are the same. Our hair is very fine and oily, but we've got lots of it to make up for it. We have to wash our hair pretty much every-other-day at least. My sister's texture is weird, even though she is my biological full sister, as she has coarse hair that is thick that she rarely needs to wash.
My sister's hair was straight and coarse as a kid, and with brown hair, and when I look at old pictures of her as a kid I think of a lighter hair-colored version of o-kappa (the standard haircut for Japanese girls), because of the similarity in texture and straightness to Japanese hair. Her hair got wavy as she got older, though, and for all of us, our hair is wavy.
