"Christmas is for children"

Why do I always feel irked when I hear that? Everybody who has teenage/grown-up children says this same line.
Ok Christmas may be more fun for children because most little ones believe in Santa and and the rest of the magical fantasy, and its a time where parents enjoy buying their kids toys and things.
But most people make it sound like its exclusively for the kids - even though most grown-ups enjoy Christmas songs and carols, putting up lights, sending greetings cards, wrapping gifts, Christmas parties, having all the family round, and having turkey on Christmas day. You can do and enjoy all of those things without having children in your life.

Does anyone agree?

When they say christmas is for children, they mean presents. They're right for the most part. I don't care about presents, I just like spending time with the family together. It's like the one time of year we all get along with no drama or problems, we just eat dinner and let the kids enjoy their presents.

Christmas isn't something I ever celebrated in my life but I have other holidays that I celebrate which also have family gatherings, etc, etc.

I agree with the OP. The same applies to other things, too. You shouldn't have to not do/enjoy something because "you are too old for it". You can just disregard such comments.

I'm not a Christian but I love the atmosphere in shopping malls etc around this time of the year (in my country).

You should just do whatever you want. Christmas is a made up holiday just like most other humanity's traditions

Yeah, I agree with almost everybody on this thread!! You're never too old to enjoy the "magic" of Christmas----the lights, the presents----and, like someone else said: the atmosphere in malls, etc. I used to be bummed every year after when they told me I was too old to dress-up and go trick-or-treating, for Halloween----until I became an adult, and adults would dress-up for parties, and I was THRILLED, again!!

Don't let what people say, getcha down----do wha'cha want!!

I just like how it's a time for people to be relaxed and get along for once (Mostly) and to see each other being happy.

I still get a bunch of presents every year, and I give presents to my parents. Instead of a list to Santa I write up a "wish list" of things I would like to have. We normally do the gift-opening on Christmas Eve, after supper. One year I thought we should be more traditional and open them on Christmas day, but no one else wanted to and I ended up opening all my presents alone, which wasn't as much fun.

Also I still get candy and other stuff from "The Easter Bunny" each year, and so does my dad. It's like my mom still has two big kids in the family.

It's for me.

I love Christmas. Trees, toys, booze. All the good things.
