my sister says the orange feral cat that adopted her and her family brought home a live snake, and now they cant find it and dont know where it is. and she doesnt even know if it's poisonous or not. also, they had scorpions in their house. the summer before last they had one every single night. you usually dont die from that kind, only hurts like crazy.

she kinda laughs when she tells about the snake, so I dont think she's bothered by it. it's been months, and they havent found nor a live snake nor a body, and she says it couldnt have gotten out. it has no way out. and knowing cats the way i do, i know they never take their prey outside the house once they brought it in.

Depends on the snake.

If venomous, I'd search for it until I found and subsequently removed it.

We had a juvenile eastern brown snake inside, and I took it outside. That's just too dangerous considering there's just too many ways it could bite you without you inciting it to.

Now, if it was a python in the attic, then no, that wouldn't bother me.

I'd have to search regardless though, just to determine what type it was.

Cautious I'd be until I could confirm.

God bless you for taking the snake outside and not killing it. not it's fault its a snake, and they only bite when frightened anyway.

non posinous snakes I dont mind either. wouldnt mind having one crawl on me or wrap itself around me, not a strangler, mind you. so many people are afraid of snakes, and shouldnt be.

I'd probably be nervous. If it was venomous, I'd remove it. If it wasn't, it would be fascinating. All depends on finding out.

I live in a country where we only have one venomous snake, so I would only be bothered to some extent, but I would still be bothered until I knew whether the snake was a common European viper or not.

I'm not afraid of or bothered by snakes unless they're venomous.

I have never understood why so many people are bothered by snakes either. I've always liked reptiles.

For all I know, it's probably already happened. My cat's always trying to bring critters into the house; on two occasions he carried live lizards inside only to set them down and mercilessly slaughter them right in front of me, leaving chunks of tail and specks of lizard blood all over the floor. Aren't animals great?

Luckily I don't live in an area with a lot of snakes, so the thought had never crossed my mind. If a month had passed, I wouldn't be worried about it anymore. What concerns me is the scorpions. If I found scorpions in my house, no amount of laundry in the world would ever make my pants clean again. And if that's a natural occurrence, I'd be making plans to move. I'm just kind of weak-willed like that.

First, I've not lived in places where there are snakes, so I wouldn't have as much perspective. While I'm not afraid of snakes, I do respect that potentially venomous snakes pose a danger. If months have passed without any sighting in your house, then it's probably safe to assume the snake is gone. The window of danger has probably passed.

Could you hire an exterminator? Just an idea - maybe they could assess your scorpion situation too. Feral cats are so mischievous.... 8)

I'd be concerned that the snake may be poisonous & I'd also be concerned that the snake would eventually die inside weather it was or not. I'd search & kill it if poisonous & release it outside or keep it for a pet if it wasn't.

Is the cat alive and well? If so, then don't worry about the snake. If it were venomous the cat would be dead. There's no way that a cat can carry a snake without being bitten.

I like what you wrote about keeping it for a pet. Wouldnt mind keeping it as a pet if I didnt have a cat. I'd let it go instead of killing it too. very nice thought.
