When I was a kid about 25 years ago, most candy bars were around 60 cents. Now, those same sizes are almost a dollar. :(

I still remember when you could get a gumball out of a machine for 5 cents. That must have been back in the early 80's. Not long ago they finally got rid of the penny in Canada, but you can't get anything for even a nickel any more (you can if you save enough, but it takes forever).

I still remember when having a dollar made you "rich", and you could buy a bottle of pop, a bag of chips, and a chocolate bar for around that much. It seems like centuries ago. Of course back when things cost a lot less you were lucky to have that amount to spend, like during the depression a good pair of shoes would cost maybe 50 cents but many people were just too poor to splurge on such a "luxury".

Nobody's mentioned the Great Shrinking Ray phenomenon yet, in other words the fact that many of these chocolate bars get smaller, though the price remains the same.

The UK government actually encourages this, supposedly to combat obesity!

I can't quite remember but I think Mars Bars were about 60c when I was about 7 years old. I remember my parents buying me one with a drink whenever we went to watch my brother play soccer.

Now they're about $1.60 full price, though sometimes you can find them on special in any of the supermarkets for anywhere between 90c and $1.20.

I remember when a 600ml bottle of coke was $1.50, now they're $4.00 at some places.
