LG L1 Android Phone on screen keyboard quit working ??

LG L1 Android phone: on screen keyboard stopped working. It doesn't show up when you click on a text box in a text message, web browser, or within an app. How do I get the keyboard back on & working? I've rebooted the phone a few times.. and there's no settings within the "LG Keyboard" app that would appear to reset anything. What are my options here?

Also, on the options list for the keyboard the voice input field has a blue check mark next to it whereas the LG Keyboard check mark box is "greyed out." After rebooting the phone, looking at the apps list, the keyboard says it's "restarting," then this changes after a few minutes to running - yet it doesn't work as it doesn't appear when clicking on any text box.

I'm pretty sure I have all of my contacts saved to SIM. IF my only and best option is to reset absolutely everything to factory settings and then redownload apps, will I be able to dl everything I had previously paid for? I only have one paid app, but it's for viewing my work schedule & messages and I like the convenience of it and don't want to pay for it again if I don't have to.

IF I do have to reset the phone to factory settings, how do I go about that? Thorough step by step process would be fantastic.. thanks in advance for any help with this!

edit: The only input I can do is copy & paste. Can't get to voice input without the keyboard displaying so I can click on the mic button. For MOST contacts in real life this isn't the end of the world.. but I'm trying to communicate with one of my deaf friends right now about the time I'm to arrive at their place and all I can do is copy and paste old messages that are close to what I'm trying to say and I'm sure I'm confusing the heck out of her lol good thing their kids can hear and I can phone their landline and wake them up shortly so I can swing by with Christmas presents on my way to work this morning!
