Now, this is the fifth year in a row that my husband gave me a Barnes and Noble gift card for Christmas.
I told him four years ago and each year since, that I appreciate his thoughtfulness but I DON'T want a gift card from this store. I'd like a card for Macy's - really badly :) He does this every year and just laughs and laughs when I open the card. He'll ask, "Are you disappointed?!" I say nothing because I get a lump in my throat because I feel as though he's not mentally well when it comes to this. He laughs his head off!! :x
He thinks it's just simply hilarious. He'll invest 40 dollars in this card that I hate. I'm not a big reader and if I read anything at all, I probably can get it from our local library system. It's VERY good here. I don't like the gifts they have at that store. Not even the Christmas candy or coffee for that matter. I can't eat the pastry or candy there because I'm sugar restricted. I like to browse in this store, ONLY BROWSE. Maybe I'll get a coffee if I need the energy to drive home or if I'm half dead from work.
What the hell is the matter with him?! ! :? It's become our Christmas tradition. What do I do?

That's very strange. I cannot guess what his true motives for doing that are. So he already knows that you'd rather have something else, but he chooses to disappoint you by giving you the unwanted gift. It just doesn't make sense unless he falsely believes that you are actually happy with that gift card. Maybe you can somehow let him know that you are truly disappointed with it. Or you could give him a really thoughtful and nice gift to make his gift for you look silly. Have you ever said to him "I'd like a card for Macy's"? But can't you really find anything that you like from that store you don't like?

I wonder if he's doing it to be cheeky.

Hand it back to him, and say "You keep it. I can't use this."

Geez-a-LOO, it's a shame you don't like Barnes & Noble----I spent SIX TIMES THAT MUCH, a couple of years, ago----I really canNOT be let-loose, in there, alone!! They have ALL KINDS of stuff, in there----they've got CDs, and GAMES, DVDs----SURELY, you could find SOMETHING!! But, yeah, he's definitely doing it on purpose----and is getting a big kick out of it!! LOL I was ROFL, when you said: "he's not mentally well"----I don't why, but it just really got me laughing, so hard!! Have you ever TOLD him, straight-up, that you want a card from Macy's?
