We've all heard or read the phrase "Give a man a fish, and you've fed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you've fed him for life".

But then, what really happens after that?

You can select only one option from the poll, but you can change your selection at any time.

Enjoy!

I starve to death because I see the poor fish wiggling on the end of the line and can't stand seeing it suffer, so I unhook it and let it go. Or I take the fish home and care for them as pets. If I was presented with an already dead fish, I would still starve to death because I couldn't make myself do the cleaning and gutting because it still looks like a fish. If given slabs of fish meat, I cook it up and share it with the person who gave it to me. I just have way too much empathy for animals to be able to kill or prepare them for eating when they still look like an animal, I can't stop thinking about what it was. No objection to animals being used as a food source as long as they're treated humanely beforehand, but I just can't bring myself to do the dirty work myself.

'sit there and pout because they didn't give you a fish' because 'pout', to me, does not come along with any emotional correlation, isn't it just a facial expression? i'd sit and look at the river in motion, contentness, fish or not fish, in this situation, yes because they didn't give me a fish, but not because i am emotionally distressed for not getting a fish. purely a present reactionary resolution. and then i'd f*** [ fish ] off and forget about it and grow my own vegetable food from seed

and time is only a temporary factor in this solution, not permanent.

There’s no option for “tried to fish, broke fishing pole by accidentally stepping on it, then falling and hitting your head on slippery rock, resulting in death.”

That has me written all over it.

Dang it! I left out the "Other" option! Sorry about that, folks!

researched 'pout' and turns out its a fish, the ocean pout fish.

Image

so yes, i'd sit and 'pout' (the action of acting like a pout fish) because they didn't give a f*** [fish] because i'm a human so it'd be difficult for me to act like a pout fish and i'd look really silly so i wouldn't blame them for not giving me one single f***

None applies to me.

If I fish, I would catch the fish, then throw the fish back into the water.

Teach a man to fish, and he will...

spend all day lying in a boat, and drinking beer. :D

None of the options. Since they didn't give me a pole, I must first go and buy one of my own. After which I can catch fish, grill them, consume them, etc.

That's very true if the person likes fish. It seems more appealing to go fishing and catch some fish than it does to pay for $50 worth of meat each month.

Eat the fish I caught during the lesson, enjoy it, and feel pleased that I learned how to do something new.
Then go back to eating my usual few foods every day because fishing's too much hassle and I'd rather spend the time on my interests anyway.

I like fish and would happily eat it as my primary protein source although I wouldn’t like to kill them.

I used to go fly fishing with my dad. I hiked while he fished. I got hooked in the arm once, and he thought the line was caught on a branch and pulled. Ouch!

See! Fishing is dangerous.

Dad also slipped and fell, breaking an expensive rod (different trip, same fishing rod).

I've heard that saying "there are plenty of fish in the sea". The other day it was in a meme, which then showed images of some of the ugliest-looking fish there is, like a blob fish, an angler fish, and a goblin shark.

I heard an environmental commercial years ago on the radio that featured that saying. They then went on to say how the sea is polluted & some people are over-fishing. I then thought how that sounded like they were describing dating websites.
