This I just got off George Takei's own facebook page, so here goes:
"The U.S. is one of the only industrialized nations that still carries out the death penalty in many states. A common practice is to serve a "final meal" chosen by the condemed. Why do you suppose we do this? And if it were you, what would your final meal be?" This is what this thread asks.

Mine would be a Big Mac, a McDouble, large fries and a large Diet Coke from McDonald's.

On a related note, a photographer named Henry Hargreaves recreated famous prisoners' last meals:

A very fascinating look, if you ask me.

Nothing.... impending death doesn't do much for my appetite.

The "Final Meal" varies from one state to another depending on state laws.

In Texas, I think it is the regular prison meal being served after some twerp ordered an enormous meal and didn't eat it.

Some states will provide what you ask provided that the total cost is less than some specific value and it can be gotten within a certain distance of the prison. For example, $20 dollars and 25 miles.

I don't know of any who will go out and buy something extravagant.

As far as I'm concerned, if someone did something that they are being executed for, they don't deserve a special final meal. It's not like it will make any difference to them nutritionally. Just serve them bread and water.

A "Meat Lover's" pizza, from Pizza Hut----a Big Mac, from McDonald's, would work, TOO!!.

I'm just sitting here imagining a dissection of my final meal right now. Something tells me that it's awfully pointless to eat anything when it's just going to end up rotting with me.
