If you believe you'll succeed, then you're probably right.
If you believe you'll fail, then you're most definitely right!
If you anticipate failure, then you're less likely to make your best effort, and you will likely fail. I've known some fast runners who were so certain that they'd lose a race that they didn't even show up, only to see the winning time was slower than theirs.
