Monasteries/Abbeys/Ruins/Stone Circles...

I have had an obsession with these kinds of places since I was a child, and would want to visit as many ruined abbeys, monasteries, castles etc as possible whenever we travelled to a new part of England...Yorkshire is fantatic for these sorts of places, as is Cornwall with Tintagel... and as to Avebury and Glastonbury... I also have long had an interest in monks...not in any, um, perverse sense, but more in the way they live etc. I used to take a bus to a benedictine monastery on the Isle Of Wight when I lived there and just sit talking to an older monk there sometimes in the summer... they were always accepting and actually so different to how I had expected, in that they seemed up to date on various problems etc.

Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone else has or has had an interest in old ruins, castles, stately homes etc etc?

Sure. But there is a difference between religious and non-religious locations. They all tend to have some trace of their former users present, but the religious ones, usually attended by large groups partaking of sharing power, often have a lot of power left over. I tap into this.

Yes, likewise, although I tend to feel fairly strong energies in any ancient place that has at one time or another been inhabited, especially if it rests on leylines...those can make things very interesting, energywise.

The old straight track, eh? I always wanted to test them out.

Used to spend a lot of time at a derelict mental hospital dating back to 1894...had a load of leylines intersecting beneath...cannot recall how I found that out, but I tend to research when I get deeply interested in a place. A lot of weird stuff there, very oppressive energy... I did read somewhere that some were researching whether paranormal activity can be put down to leylines. Shall have to look into that again sometime.

I've always been fascinated with castles, abbeys, etc. I also Love old houses. I love to take walks in the historical section of my town and look at the old houses. I plan to go on the next Old Houses Tour. I've had many interesting experiences, too, with old houses and their energy.

Monks interest me.

Wow. I can only imagine how that combination would work. I didn't know that leylines were recognized that far back.

If you have no interest other than crapping on other peoples views, thenI suggest you keep away from the thread and stick to your own interests. I abhor judgemental people who cannot let other have their own interests without crapping on them. You seem incapable of keeping your supercilious little opinions to yourself.

I like those kinds of locations...I have an affinity to temples/shrines/and any kind of place of worship...In fact, I had been obssessed with the act of 'worship' itself.... ceremonies and rituals concerning religiosity. However I found out that my obssession was limiting my interaction with God...(yes, I believe in God and spirit and all that nonsense...) Anyway, I am still greatly fond of those things...

Have you ever heard gregorian chant?

I think I have an idea of what it is...I think I've heard excerpts of it here and there...I remember listening to requiem...I was extremely fond of it...although I'm not sure if it is related to gregorian chant...

Anyway, I think it's a good point...sacred chants are always my favorite...

In the 1890's I thought that they had been forgotten, and weren't rediscovered until mid 20th. I guess I'm probably reading something wrong into this, but I assumed that the hospital was cited there FOR the research. Always make connections and all.
