Just like an area or group of specific topics that you enjoy.
For instance, I like the quizzes people find on the internet, and I often take them and post the results.
I also like giving advice.
People who enjoy the same things on WP will also do the same things, and we will post together.
I do have to admit, a lot of the stuff in love and dating I don't understand, either.

If you take the time to notice, you will notice that particular members tend to lurk in certain areas. Since they all post in generally the same threads, they learm more about each other, then they are statistically more likely to make friends with the other people who post in the same areas.
Of course, this is based on my own observations, so I could be completely wrong, but it does explain why people sometimes get upset about the (non-existant, in my opinion) clique problem on WP.
