Did anyone see late tonight on CNN that there has been a new autism breakthrough? Supposedly through research supported by the Autism Speaks organization they have isolated an malfunctioning enzyme thought to play a vital role in cognitive dysfunction. Through a series of blood transfusions from a so called normal person they believe they will be able to eliminate autistic tendancies.

The dr leading the study did say he thinks even older autistics, particularly those with Aspergers can be cured, but it will take multiple transfusions to be successful. They think the older Aspies which they are calling the 40+ group may also require shock therapy to eradicate undesirable anti-social behaviors.

They are suppose to be starting a registry of concerned NT's to start the first round of mass treatments.

Yeah I saw the same report also. I did some online lookup of studies that suggest the treatment has less than a 47% chance of causing irreversible erectile dysfunction. Which got me excite so to speak about this amazing treatment break through.

Ummm...haven't seen research article/news show. Will start looking now. My mother is a teacher; she says that autism is on the rise in America. Whether it's because it's now getting accurately diagnosed or that there is a genetic trait (somthing like fragile X) that is impacted by how we as a society in America have influenced our environment....I don't know. However, I think it needs to be figured out.

There are contributing cuases in most developmental brain disorders that can be isolated (such as fragile X). Other disorders have a clear genetic diagnosis. Autism/asperger's does not have that....as of yet...

I'm getting older; I see my children having problems and I feel sad for them. I don't want my grand or great-grand children to encounter those same problems....on the other hand, I'm truly blessed to have the skills I do due to asperger's. My children are equally blessed to have great skills in certain areas. How to find a balance? It's a problem I deal with on a daily basis.

this is unreal, the enzymes would wear off, its redicolous idea.
enzymes must be taken all the time, and they can be made genetically

Sporty spoilers.

One of the other sites I'm on is running this wonderfully
elaborate prank. A couple of admins have been removed
and all kinds of stuff's going on. Not positive that it's really
a joke.

Last year, they replaced all the commonly used words with
random garbage.

That's awesome. I'm going right down to the Autism Speaks HQ with a sword to force the blood out of some of the high up members to test this theory for myself. :P
