Looking the same after all these years?

Back in 1997 my grandmother died of cancer and was buried along with my grandad who died in 1991. 10 years later in 2007 I said to my brother "I doubt my grandmothers remains would be preserved just how they were when she was buried 10 years ago". My brother then said "actually you would be surprised"

My grandmother was embalmed after her death and my dad said she looked unrecognisable when he viewed her at the funeral parlour.

More to the point is what my brother said true or not? I wonder if today her remains would still be in good condition?
