Restaurants: Fancy or Family?

I am really NOT a fan of fancy restaurants----there's all these "rules" (etiquette), and I'm afraid I'll forget something----plus, they put "stuff" on your plate, like "weeds", or little "trees", or little dribbles of stuff, or something that looks like it's ALREADY been eaten----I HATE all that stuff!!

I'd rather go to Taco Bell, or McDonald's----actually, DINERS are my all-time favorites (I could just LIVE in one, LOL)----so, it would be "Family", for me.

I definitely go for casual eateries; diners are great! My most favorites, though, are buffets. I don't have to interact with servers or wait for my food; I can choose exactly what I want and in what portions; and when I am done I can just get up and leave, because payment is often upon entry. Heaven!

Oh, YEAH----I forgot about buffets----I totally LOVE them, for ALL the EXACT reasons, you mentioned!

Fancy please. I can't enjoy my food with screaming kids at the next table. Love McDonald's and Taco Bell, but its gotta be To Go!

Restaurants: Quiet

I like restaurants where one could pick up food on one's own (such as within a "buffet"-type setup), then go to a table. I like lots of space when I'm eating, since I like to read the newspaper and do crossword puzzles.

I don't like to have to leave a tip. And I don't like the hierarchy implied by Maitre D's, waiters/waitresses, and busboys.

I can't stand it when people talk about waiters as if they are the "help." Reminds me of slavery.

I like fancy restaurants, the food is always really interesting and good. I always feel a little out of place in them, though. Family restaurants are good too, in a different way.

I really like fast-food.

I don't see fast food places as "Family".

I prefer to avoid buffets, but will eat in some of them (not just any buffet) on occasion.

The day I saw a kid take his half full plate back to the buffet, dump the food into the trays, and fill it with other things did it for me. If I do go to a buffet, I try to be there very shortly after they open before the little brats have a chance to do that.

There is one buffet that I will never go into again. Their management has been seen taking plates of food off of tables and scraping it back onto the buffet. They won't get any more of my business ever. If it closes and reopens, it had better be under new ownership and new management.

There was one Chinese buffet that I ever truly liked. It was a small place with very good food. Unfortunately they moved to a bigger building and expanded their buffet. While they have more items, they don't have the customers to keep things moving so the food tends to sit too long. That was rarely a problem in the previous building.

I generally eat out about once a week. Even then, I prefer to get the food and take it home and eat in private.

When I do go out to eat and I'm by myself, I take something with me to read or work on. Three weeks ago I went into one family restaurant and was carrying a clipboard with some math problems to work on for fun. When the restaurant's staff saw me standing there with my clipboard they thought I was the health inspector coming by to inspect their restaurant! I got a good laugh out of that.

It turned out to be a pretty good meal. I had the chicken fried steak with french fries -- turned out the french fries were salted with garlic salt which was a bit of a downer. Also, they didn't have enough cream gravy -- next time I'll ask for extra cream gravy so that I have enough for my french fries, too.

I seldom eat out. I find cheap restaurants more comfortable. Fancy restaurants make me very uncomfortable because I'm not used to the "rules". My family and I go to this particular fancy restaurant when I visit my country. I kind of feel out of place there but the food is very delicious. I do enjoy it.

I love being handed food... I didn't have to cook it, so I love eating out, especially as it is a rarity.

I like fancy restaurants, simply because of the quality of the food. Dining etiquette was a standard part of my upbringing, I can out etiquette the poshest of em when needs be! Lol.

Fast food is better in drive through format, cant stand the noise in those places, but as its all deep fried, I'm more comfortable with this type of food from unfamiliar eateries. I will only eat from trusted buffet sources, and never touch the salad accompaniment in affordable dining.

The sort of family-run restaurants that are found all over Europe, particularly in France, Spain and Italy are my favourite. The ingredients are fresh and local, the atmosphere quiet, relaxing and informal, and the prices good value.

Formal restaurants used to be okay occasionally, but lately they've become pretentious and unfriendly as well as overpriced.

Yes, that is a nice dining experience, I quite like Mediterranean food.

Fancy restaurants are way too pretentious for me. Rather have food i am familiar with and in reasonable portion sizes and prices. Plus as mentioned, prefer reasonable rules and hate the hierarchy of the fancy places.
