what happens if u have a broken forearm and dont wear a cast. the bone thats the sharp side of the forearm.
i broke mine 2 months ago but they xrayed it wrong or something and told me my arm was fine, i believed them. i hurt it again just by putting a small strain on it. my mum made me goto the hospital again for it, and this time they x rayed it correctly, and saw the bad xrays in my file from before. anyways they told me it was broken and sent me in to get a cast.
this cast goes from above my elbow to below my wrist. i hate it. i was fine for 2 months w/ no cast before, but it re-broke so easily.
so what im wondering is what would happen if i broke this cast off and just went easy on my arm. would it heal wrong or something? what could i do to make it heal stronger then last time?
also if i leave it on, any1 have any tips to making it a less annoying experience??

It will heal wrong. Casts are meant to keep the bone straight. Besides, if it's broken, yo have no choice but the cast.

the cast dosent even feel like its holding the bone in place, its just holding my elbow and wrist still.

^That's the point. If you move your forearm the broken bone shifts and moves, making the structure not heal the way it'd most like to.

My friend broke his arm once. He's a tough guy (loves setting things on fire and hitting things), so when he arrived at school one day holding his arm and crying I was like 'oh s***, serious mode'. When he got the cast (which was on his writing hand, I enjoyed using his laptop) he said that it was always sweaty inside and the lack of movement there sucked. When he got it off, the skin was pale-AS. (as in as, not Asperger's Syndrome)

What do they do with people who's skin cannot tolerate constant exposure to moisture? If I had a cast my skin would rash up and get infected.

Matt -

I'd ask the doctor about alternatives. I had surgery on my wrist like a year ago, and the option was a splint that I could take off to shower or scratch an intch or a cast. I chose the splint, but I had to be careful and do stuff one-handed in the shower so I wouldn't damage the area of the surgery. I don't know about the specifics of your situation though.

My cousin and I are also both violently allergic to latex. She had to get a cast on her hand a couple of years ago and they accidentally put on some stretchy-type bandage under the cast that made her itch too bad. She did break the cast off, but then went back and demanded another one made with different material. The new one they put on didn't bother her and her hand healed.

So, rather than breaking off the cast, I would go to the doctor with a specific list of grievences about the cast to see if there are any other alternatives.

I've heard that leaving a break untreated can lead to atrophy of the muscles - eventually that would lead to you being unable to use your arm for just about anything...
