Why do people leave their shoes in odd places?

I go out walking & I see shoes on the sidewalk, on fences, hanging over wires & other such odd places. Why do people do that :?

Probably to air them out or dry em. I always put mine in an odd place so I don't forget where they are :)

They stay there for months thou & some of the places they have to throw them to reach like on tellephone wires.

Thanx for the links boredome. It seems like there's so many reasons the only people who know why are the people who tossed em or abandoned em.
