Being a cartoonist myself who was heavily influenced by all the classic "funny animal" cartoons I saw as a child, I have no idea why this is such a big screaming deal. They're not humans, they're animals. If it's so offensive, then I guess we should go put pants on elephants at the zoo. Wow, can you imagine how much fabric you would need!? Plus elephant skin is like rough concrete, so pantyhose on the females would be out of the question.
Donald Duck doesn't need pants, he has feathers! I think I heard that years ago on an episode of Blossom. Daffy Duck has always been naked and no one complains about that.
What is this world coming to!? It's like you can't break the rules or use you imagination when making cartoons anymore. But that's whole point of cartooning, ignoring stupid trivial rules and logic and reality. If you want them to be exactly like real life, then watch live-action shows instead, although those are usually even less realistic.
I have to go now, and draw some half-dressed, barefooted, technicolored wildlife wearing fingerless gloves to soothe my brain...
