While living abroad I've noticed that cats and dogs meow and bark in a slightly different way. This is reflected in the way their voices are represented in the human language of the particular country.
Wow, that's really interesting. I wonder if that means they would come off as different to each other and maybe even have problems understanding each other?
Good point. When I lived in Germany years ago I had a dog who was born there, so he was used to communicating with 'German-speaking' dogs and barked like they did. Then we moved back to the UK, and I noticed that he didn't interact with the British dogs quite so much. And after a while his bark changed slightly, it's hard to describe but it was different, after which he got on better with the local dogs.
Weird.
