I heard dogs and cats eat their young sometimes. One guy told me a few years ago that a mother dog ate her own puppies and all found he found left of them was their little heads.
Even if there's a justifiable reason for why they do this I could never look at that cat or dog the same again.
BTW, has anyone heard of something called spaying?
I told them to get her fixed when they took the new dog in for shots, but they didn't. I honestly didn't give much thought to it after that. We need to get her fixed after these kittens, even though she's mainly an outside cat.
I also kind of hold a grudge against her for eating them. I still see her as the "cannibal cat" and don't like to hold her. It's just squicky to me lol.
Here's a strange and somewhat related fact. My midwife told me once that she's been to a couple of births where the mom asked her to cook the placenta for her afterwards. There is a small and not very popular trend toward eating your placenta after you have a baby. I wouldn't do it. I saved mine and had my husband bury it under a big, old tree which is what you are supposed to do, (I couldn't get it with the first baby - he was born in the hospital but the others were born at home) but I don't think I could ever eat it.
On a side note, after I had my third baby we put the placenta in a bag in the freezer so my husband could go bury it. It was raining the day after the birth so he couldn't. We had forgotten about it until my MIL came to visit and I saw it thawing on the counter. She thought it was liver and was going to cook it. I hate my MIL and if I had known she wouldn't have forced my kids to eat it too, I would have let her do it. Then I would have told her afterwards. I'm kind of a s**t sometimes.
