There is no excuse for this. It is part of a sad, scary time in American culinary history, and we need to remember the pain that our ancestors had to endure as they were faced with the daunting task of consuming a jello-mayo-fish or meat horror at the end of a hard day's work or school. The only reason I can imagine for the existence of these torturous combinations was the widespread practice of prescribing Qualuudes to housewives. Luudes are gone now, and thankfully so are these dishes. Out of respect for what our forefathers went through so that we can dine on organic free range chicken wraps, I ask you to look at these trials and tribulations and have a moment of silence for their heroic efforts to not only consume these disasters, but to also do it with a smile on their faces.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Hellman's Homecooked Horrors of History.

Do not try this at home, or anywhere else. For the love of God, don't do it.

Once, I put orange drink in my cornflakes!

I lived on mayonnaise sandwiches in the 1970s.

Mayo sandwiches are common down here. You can get them in diners and bbq places.

I used to give my kids Fruity Pebbles with grape KoolAde on them. One morning I was out of milk and we were in a hurry so I winged it. They loved it and constantly wanted it that way. I don't care for it though, although I do like chocolate milk on rice krispies, it's better than cocoa krispies that way

LOL...I think I would prefer the chocolate milk in the Coco Krispies.

You know what I think? I think I'm biased towards cold milk in my cereal--please don't be offended! :P

I'm a big fan of Hellman's but these recipes have got to go.

The biggest horrors seem to involve gelatin, which I can easily avoid.

I think I'm going to go now to my frig and reassure my beloved jar of Hellman's that I will never subject it to these kinds of abuses. Besides, this time of year all my available mayo is reserved for vine-ripened tomato sandwiches. :D

I like Bama mayo

What is your opinion of "headache powder?"

I've never seen it north of Virginia.

I had a friend from the Carolinas that swore by Duke's mayo. I wonder if I am detecting a pattern of state loyalties here. I may have to research where Hellman's originates to make sure that I am not unknowingly betraying my Southern roots. :D

You mean like Goode's? I think it is powdered aspirin with a big dose of added caffeine. I tried some once years ago but decided pills were as effective and less trouble.

I love Goody powders, they work great. I also call them all Goody powder whether it's Goody's , Standback, or BC. They are different from each other, but they all work faster than tylenol or advil. I just pour it in my mouth and swallow it with water, I don't bother mixing it in a glass and drinking it. I don't know anybody who does that.

For some reason caffeine makes tylenol, aspirin or motrin work better.

Eww, I've been to that Gallery Of Regrettable Food website before. How did people eat such swill!?

The Jello aquarium reminds me of the one time I tried making an "edible aquarium" with Berry Blue Jello and Swedish Fish candies that I saw in a magazine. But I didn't use the quick-set version of the recipe and the fish got all soft and gross. I think I'll just stick to adding orange juice instead of water.

I could eat #1,6,9 and 10. (Yes, the frankfurter one looks delicious to me - don't ask.) :D

The ''meat-za'' may be edible depending on how crispy the ''crust'' is.

The rest either confused me or repulsed me.

The meat-za would probably be good if cooked right. I once made a cheeseburger meat loaf that was in a recipe book for microwaved dishes, and it was pretty good. Only I made it in a regular oven. Adding onion soup mix and bbq sauce instead of the usual tomato topping make a world of difference.
