They are just so expensive. The ones I've seen at Barnes & Noble and FYE are really expensive.

Really? I have a huge box of them that I have collected over the years...but I doubt most would want them. I will have to dig them up and see what's in there :-)

PS When I hear about those on the spectrum collecting things, I always think "that's not me"...but now that you mention it, I have boxes with cassette tapes I collected from friends and family members over the years, vinyl records, old books, sheet music, etc. from an old friend of the family who was a writer...hmmm I'm the only one in the family who keeps all this stuff lol :-)

If you're in the U.S. then go to your local Goodwill. Some of their stores have caught on about the vinyl craze and are raising prices. However, you can find some great deals on vinyl most of the time. Also, check out estate and garage sales. They usually advertise on Craigslist or a similar service.

I've got about 1000 records in my collection. It's definitely a special interest of mine.

Do Not Sell At Any Price is a great book about people who collect 78 RPM records if you are interested.

Still have the vinyl, but really should get a record player again, putting them in the electric drill and holding a needle against them is going to ruin them!

Barnes & Nobel is expensive in general....you could try finding an independent record store that specializes in music, and sometimes they have deals or sales on albums. Or used albums are cheaper than the brand new ones if you want to save a little and are still in good condition. I don't know I wouldn't bother with Barnes & Nobel for finding music.

I have lots of vinyl records, as well as lots of CDs and some cassette tapes(which aren't expensive at all).

Barnes & Noble seems to sell everything at list price. I guess they don't understand how this works: if something has a list price of $39.99, you sell it for $20 so you can say it's "50% off!" The last time I was in one of their stores, I saw the Back to the Future trilogy on Blu-ray selling for $89.99. 8O

I forgot to mention, the internet....possible to find music and movies cheaper on some sites. I bought Season 1 through 4 of Game of Thrones for about 68$ off of ebay.

At the height of my disc jockey career I had around 2,000 LP's and 2.500 45's. Over the years I transferred the vinyl to audio CD's which I can now make mp3's out of. After compleating the transfer, I sold off the common titles and only hung on to the vinyl that I believed might never make it onto CD or mp3 commercially. I'd say I now have around one-tenth of the records I had then.

You're talking about newly issued brand new vinyl (believe it or not there is such a thing. Pay phones still exist too!).

It used to be that only club deejays used new vinyl ( the latest dance hits were still issued on vinyl well into the digital Nineties), but now its in vogue for some general music fans as well for some reason. So that growing, but still niche market, exists. But the product is expensive.

But if you're talking about used vinyl- just go to any used book/record/DVD/game store. You will find classic rock for less money than the same thing on CD. Though my favorite place has a cordoned off room for the collectable used vinyl that is expensive.

I have about 75-80 Stereo Hi-Fi LPs of classical music. They are about 40 years old and I got them for next to nothing at a thrift store.

I have maybe 80 of them & I only ever bought one new one, MGMT's Oracular Spectacular. All the rest were from a craigslist seller, thrift stores & flea markets one Summer when a friend and I went around and bought some. I paid $0.50-2 a piece. Pretty cheap.
