I mow a friend's lawn during the growing season but his patch is pretty shady. I'm not sure that's the only think keeping his lawn from being thicker. He's got areas that's pretty thin, weedy and dusty. Whenever I roll over the area with my mower, suddenly it's a dust storm in downtown Phoenix at rush hour. Another section of his lawn has ant mounds aplenty.
Now, I don't know if this is going to help but when I made a bed planter in my yard last fall and threw down new soil, next spring, the grass around it grew thick and full and a nice shade of kelly green. I'm thinking maybe just getting a bag of new soil and just kind of sprinkling it around his yard so it's got some new stuff to provide nutrients and whatnot.
Maybe I should seed first then lay down soil. Soil first then seed? That would make more sense, right?
