Obvious thread is obvious.
---
I like the Star-Spangled Banner (USA), O Canada (obvious) and Kimigayo (Japan). Japan's anthem, however, sounds like something you'd hear at a funeral, whereas O Canada is much more upbeat; not trying to be insensitive, it's just an observation of mine. The US anthem is somewhere in between those two, I think.

My country's national anthem, cause it's the only one I "really" (not really really lol) know.

isn't the american anthem one of the hardest to sing? i feel like america the beautiful could make a good alternative.

i think Kimigayo and Wilhelmus (of the Netherlands) are both among the oldest national anthems, the former being based on an old poem and having the oldest lyrics, but the latter having had actual music for longer. it's also got some really peaceful themes.

of course, no national anthem thread is complete without this work of art:

The US anthem has an octave and a fifth for range. Difficult, but not impossible. It's usually played in the key of Bb (concert pitch), which means that you have to have a range of Bb2 to F4. My range is G2 to G4. I can sing it.

IMO the French have the most kick-ass anthem.

I love it when these anthem threads keep popping up from time to time.

At the moment, my favourite anthems are from Russia, Wales, Kenya, Israel and Slovakia.
There are tons of others I like, too. Uruguay's is definitely interesting. ;)

Special shoutout to this version of the New Zealand anthem, too:

It tends to happen when you're from a small country that no-one pays any attention to. :P

Come to think of it, the US anthem has some really poetic lyrics – especially in the later verses. The melody is quite fitting, too.

On the shore, dimly seen
Thru the mists of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host
In dread silence reposes.

That's all I know. :D

I liked the non-Stalinist version of the Soviet anthem. Before all of the totalitarian garbage was thrown onto the end of it.

While I find the national anthems of South Africa, New Zealand and India beautiful they just don’t have that special something that makes them memorable to me. I will remember that they were nice but not how they went.
I think Israel’s is very nice with that melancholic melody. It’s one of the few melodies I can play on my keyboard.
My favorites are those of the US and France. I loved the tune of France’s anthem since long before I knew what it was or what it meant. It just really sticks in my mind.

Australia’s anthem is okay, but it’s with this alternative text that it really shines. OMG it’s beautiful!
