If you and a friend were on an island, there is no food, plenty of water, and a possible chance of rescue. With you, you have a pig. Do you eat the pig, or wait and possibly die of starvation, or is all life equally sacred?
The second scenario, the only other possible food on the (ever so plausible:P) island, are less anthropomorphised, fish. Do you eat the fish, or starve waiting for rescue?
Another possible option of course is eat your friend first, but that's kinda creepy.
I don't mean this post to cause any bad feeling by the way, as vegetarianism, (and possible cannibalism) is an emotive subject for some people.

I guess I would probably eat the pig/fish, even though killing and cutting them up would make me feel guilty and grossed out.

As far as vegetarianism is concerned, I wouldn't necessarily call myself a vegetarian, but I'm not a fan of meat and don't eat it often. I haven't eaten meat in a while and I've stopped eating fish recently too.

The best definition of vegan that I heard is: To refrain from using any food or product derived from animal sources to the extent possible and practical. I'm vegan btw.

In that scenario, I would refrain as long as I could but if I really had to, I would eat the pig. I would be pretty wrecked though because I love animals and I would never want to kill anything.

I find it awkwardly amusing in a dark sort of way that you brought up cannibalism. I just watched the movie Alive the other day where a soccer team got stranded in the mountains for several months and had to resort to cannibalism. If I was in there position I'd probably do the same, as horrific the thought of it is.

what i have learned from Les Stroud (survivorman) that in a survival situation "all animals are fair game".

as horrific as that sounds, especially to those who love animals, you gotta do what you gotta do to survive.

I would probably just get it over with quick and kill myself and that would be that. None of this survivor eat your own feces and urine s**t for me.

I'm a total meat-and-potatoes man myself.
