Hi, I'm sixteen years old. I take Spanish and have since I was eleven, but I am nowhere near fluent. I am though in awe of much of Latin American culture, and, given the benefits of bilingualism, seek to become fluent in Spanish.

Now, if I took Spanish as a major and became an exchange student, that would be one thing. But I have already decided to dedicate myself to musical neuroscience. However, I do hope to become fluent in Spanish by immersion. Should I take an immersion course after college? Move to Spanish-speaking American location, (is this rude)?

Idk, if anyone has insight, please help.

Would it be practical to devote one day a week to being immersed in Spanish--only watching Spanish TV, only visiting Web sites in Spanish... only studying books written in Spanish ?

nah, i don't think so. :)
you mean like the southwest? some places are more "spanish speaking" than others but for the most part, cities like LA sometimes have signs in both languages and spanish newspapers and tabloids are easily available.

i like seeing people interested in learning spanish, i recommend you take as many immersion/learning measures as you can, but not to interfere with your neuroscience major. becoming fluent can be a daunting task, you'll need quite a bit of resources i think.
