im not much of an expert but you may be watering them too much which would cause rot in the roots!
do they have access to the 3 essential elements(nitrogen pottassium, phoshurus)
if the soil is grey(mouldy) on top, change all soil and wash pots thougholy
do the have freash air??
cause if so try leaving windows and doors closed to let co2 build up they need that to produce chloyphyll(food)
always give them sun light!! :D

hope they get well!(talking to them builds up co2 so continue that)

Let the surface of the soil get dry to the touch between watering. Most (house plant) palms are from semiarid areas and do not like continuously damp roots, as mentioned be careful not to over watering. When the weather becomes mild where you live move them outside to a fairly shady outdoor location for the summer, if you can. And in the immortal words of Douglas Adams: "Don't panic!"

Plants and gardening are one of my first aspie type obsessions. I have an apartment full of house plants and once had a greenhouse and gardens that surrounded it. My current opportunities for gardening seem quite pathetic compared to my past green thumb glories.

Check the leaves for any little bugs that might be eating it.

Those Styrofoam balls are likely expanded perlite not Styrofoam and are consider a good thing to have in potting soil.

I've never had good luck growing plants in pots. Over watering can be a major problem.
Make sure the plant drains well so it can get oxygen to the roots. I had some habanero
peppers that where all about dead and some old man suggested I poke alot of holes in the sides and bottom of the pot(plastic) and the plants made a full recovery.

Being in doors plants I assume they do not need full sun but they should be near a window I think and not just getting artificial lighting.

what's the name of the plant?

i'm also thinking overwatering may be the problem, if it's got perlite (those little balls) in the potting mix they hold water so you don't need to water as often. as someone else said, let the soil dry out in between watering. other than that it may be not enough light, some plants need direct sunlight even indoors, some hate it.

if you do a google on the plants names you'll find a lot of info.
