Anyone get annoyed when you're at a store and a PA announcement interrupts a good song? I like those PA systems where they can make an announcement without stopping the music.

Sometimes especially when I was working at WalMart cuz they played songs at night that they wouldn't play in the daytime & lots of other places wouldn't play either.

And the person doing the announcing is always loud and obnoxious sounding because the intercom is overampified and distorted.

Yeah, I spend long hours in retail stores counting their inventory for an inventory company. So I hear that all of the time. And I am also a connisseur of store muzak. Savoring the subtle differences in piped music even in different outlets of the same chain.

But most stores in most chains seem to play the same package: a mix of oldies and slightly old new stuff.

In just about every store you will hear (sometime in an eight hour shift)the Seventies' hit by Dobie Grey "Drift Away". Actually not a bad song, but its starting to crack me up when I hear it because every store has it on their muzak playlist. That and Fergie singing that song about "big girls don't cry" .

Sometimes you cant quite hear the lyrics, and you end up making up your own. So when working in stores I often hear Paul McCartney singing about "my great Dane", or Madonna singing how she sprained her "lumbago. It was years ago, but it seems like yesterday".

Ooh which McCartney song sounds like "my Great Dane"?

I love misheard lyrics!

I used to think Madonna "Fell in love with lumbago"!

Dont know the actual title. It's the song that starts with the chorus line: "migraine! migraine!, migraine!, myyyyy ...great....DAAAAAANE!! !"

I guess that his great Dane gives him a migraine! Lol!

He is actually saying "my great day".

Madonna fell in love with her....a guy whose name sounds like "Lumbago", on a Spanish holiday. And she lost him. A sultry Spaniard she met in Majorca, or like that. So "she lost her lumbago" (got a slipped disk? Now THAT will make you wanna sing the blues!).

"Migraine! Migraine"

Way back in the day, I also heard a very much nastier misheard take on that "lumbago" lyric, which I won't repeat here, but everyone used to make fun it sounding like that term! 8O

Have you seen the website "Kiss This Guy"? I'm going to have a visit there now, sometimes it gives me such a belly laugh I forget all my troubles. :)

I don't like the music, let alone PA announcements.

It's annoying when the announcement finishes and it's a different song instead of the one that had been on.

I get annoyed by PA announcements no matter what because they're loud and disruptive and the people's voices sound obnoxious. I should just listen to my own music on my headphones but it's hard to concentrate on both my shopping and the music. Maybe I'll just stuff some cotton in my ears.

Huh. I've never even thought about it to be honest. But I have gotten annoyed when I've listened to the radio and a song I like was interrupted by traffic reports.
