You know that side-dish you have with your turkey that's made with breadcrumbs, onions, celery, sage, etc.----what do you call it?

I call it "stuffing"; BUT, because my people are from the South, I might say, something like: "Are you going to dress the turkey?", which means putting that breadcrumb mixture INTO the turkey, before baking it.

I call it stuffing.
To me it's MUCH better when cooked inside the turkey than separately in a pan.

In the UK it's usually called stuffing, although people sometimes talk about 'dressing the turkey'. But the tradition of stuffing turkeys, chickens etc has rather died out - something to do with health scares involving undercooked or infected poultry.

I enjoy the stuffing but don't eat meat.

Definitely "stuffing."

I didn't hear "dressing" until I was a young adult.

I've always thought of it as stuffing. Using the word dressing would confuse me as a kid, because that would be something you put on a salad, not in a turkey.

My mom now removes the stuffing and puts it in a dish when serving the turkey because she knows all kinds of bacteria will build up inside the bird if she leaves it in there. But she didn't do that when I was a kid. It's a wonder we didn't all get poisoned a long time ago.

Stuffing, because it gets stuffed into the turkey.

I call it stuffing. Dressing would be the stuff that goes on top of the turkey. I do like rice dressing but that's not the same as turkey stuffing.

I call it stuffing, and it looks like most people here so far call it stuffing as well.

I wonder if "dressing" is more "old-fashioned" than "stuffing."

I grew up in Ohio with the term "stuffing".

I ate some last night and it was so savory and good! :D
