I do this too....even though the warm water feels nice and I like it when I'm in there, I have pretty bad hygiene because actually bringing myself to GET in the shower just feels like a chore. (ESPECIALLY in the winter when you know you're going to be freezing when you get out, then it just doesn't seem worth it).

I always feel bad when other people say they shower once or twice a day...I only shower when I know I look dirty (if I'm going to be seeing other people) or if something is happening that I "need" to feel clean for...like seeing my favorite movie or something (that's the OCD there). Otherwise I'm not that fussed about going several days without one.

i have trouble stepping into the shower, then once in I'm fine until I'm done and have to get out and then have the same trouble trying to step back out.

My brother used to mark on the calendar the days I took a shower. It's weird, because, like others have said, I don't really mind showering (aside from being cold and wet when I get out), but it takes time. Aside from the shower itself, you also need to get dressed and wait for your hair to dry. My skin also feels dry and itchy afterwards, and I hate the feel of lotion too much to use moisturizer (or sunscreen).

Like you've said, I shower when I feel dirty, which, considering the fact that I spend most of my time seated in an air-conditioned office, isn't all that often. If I've just changed the oil in my car or gotten swety doing something, sure, but for the most part I don't feel like it's necessary. If it weren't for the fact that my hair gets oily after too long, I wouldn't shower as often, either.

i hate the whole shower. the water runs hot and cold because i'm in an old apartment. so i can't say how long the shower will take. 4am is a good time for a shower, but i don't do it then either. i don't like the noise it makes. and i don't like how cold it is, there's even a draft in the shower itself (from the fan, whether it's on or off).

it's funny, i'd be quite delighted to fling myself into an ocean.

I have the 'shower' issue too - especially when I have to wash my hair. I have frizzy hair, so I can use the excuse that it's not a good idea to wash frizzy hair every day (or it just gets frizzier and frizzier!) but it still needs to be done.

And I can't use a hairdryer because of the frizziness, so I just have to go around with wet hair for hours until it dries naturally.

I don't like the contrast of going from 'dry' to in the shower and then from in the shower to out again - especially if it's not a warm day!

What did help a little is that I stopped using soap because it really dried my skin. I have a lot of allergies so I use soap free shower gel and face wash that are both for sensitive skin.

And I don't have baths. I don't like large bodies of water - even when I do the washing up, I won't fill the sink, I just trickle the tap and wash each item individually.

I know the feeling. Everythings really uncomfortable afterwards, and it generally gets in the way of things. That being said, when I do shower I don't think I've ever voluntarily spent less than half an hour in it, while for most of the twice a day people spend about 5 minutes a time.

I usually take baths. NTs usually tell me baths are "nasty" but at least I'm cleaning myself. I don't really like being hit by water.

I do shower when I need to wash my hair, though.

Off-topic and not about showers, but I do things like that too. I feel the need to get dressed or clean up my room before I can eat a favorite meal or watch a DVD I like.

I chant.

for all those hygiene things that I can't stand to waste the time to do the chore of dealing with my body, I chant.

I chant the whole procedure, from folding my glasses and placing them on the bathroom stand, to taking off my top and then to turn to the shower and turn on the water, and lean down and feel the temp, then pull up the lever to start the water in the shower head. . on and on chanting the routine of how I cleanse myself, shampoo, soap, scrub, mind the elbows and then the heels on and on until I finally face getting my FACE wet and easing into it.

I also chant the process of using the toilet, with different chants for different functions. When I was still on my menstrual cycle I had a *&%#$! chant for THAT too.

body hygiene it's the only way I can stave off being the crazy old woman with the cats that scares little children is to shower every day and wear clean clothes from the skin out, or I will surely be the bag lady that reeks of urine and doesn't even know it because my olfactory senses are distorted somehow. I am really afraid of becoming that. So I chant myself into a routine and make it happen. But that doesn't mean I LIKE it.

You chant? How do you mean - like Om? Or do you chant what you're doing - I'm very escapist about the whole thing myself.

I hate taking showers because there isn't a reasonable amount of privacy in these fücking communal bathrooms in the dorms.

OMG I do that too. I'm a perfectionist, and I feel like I'm never quite done in the shower. I can't get out unless I've scrubbed & scented or shaved or shampooed & conditioned and exfoliated and moisturized every last little square centimeter of skin. Plus, I like being in the shower, with the quiet, private closed-in space. Once I'm in I don't want to get out, because that means facing the world again. Once I do get out, I hate having wet hair.

Having a shower means committing myself to a process that can take up to two hours unless I rush it. I HATE that. On the other hand, once it's all done, I feel soooooo good...

I really enjoy taking showers when there is enough hot water. I live in apartment and haven't had hotwater but 2 weeks in past 3 months.
