This is a thread where you can post something you are proud of yourself for, no matter how small or how big.

I'll start. I've always been too scared to skate on my own before. But yesterday my youth group went skating, and I managed to skate. I started out slow, first stepping onto the ice holding a pole, then standing on my own, then moving forward. I was really slow and fell a few times, but still--I skated!

When I was only 19, I got my own comic strip series printed in the local newspaper in Halifax. It was just a little three-panel strip printed twice a month on a page aimed at teenagers, but I was interviewed about it and was on the news on TV. People would see me and tell me they'd seen or or my comics in the paper. I got paid 25 dollars a strip, and it was the closest I've ever come to having an actual career using my artwork. :) But they discontinued the teen page in less than a year and the comics I clipped out and saved (they wouldn't return the strips I mailed to them and didn't want photocopies) and the interview in the paper are all I have now. :(

Once I cooked for a Men's Fellowship breakfast, people started asking to be invited to my Saturday-morning family breakfasts!

Typical Menu:

- Eggs to order OR one or two six-egg omelets featuring cheese, mushrooms, and spinach (depending on number of guests).

- Almond curry fried rice OR vegetable curry fried rice (depending on availability).

- Spam, ham, steak, OR sausage (depending on availability).

- French toast OR pancakes (depending on my mood).

- Oat porridge OR cream of wheat (depending on availability).

- Coffee, orange juice, AND black tea.

lostonearth35: That's awesome. I enjoy reading comic strips. I wish I could draw.

Fnord: Cool. Sounds delicious.

I've always wanted to be an accompanist.
For real. For money.

This year (starting last February), I have been called or emailed out of the blue by strangers about 6 different times, looking for an accompanist. I even landed a permanent job with a local chorus this past September, and I had an interview/audition yesterday for a job with another chorus! Yesterday and today I also got emails from people looking for me to accompany students at an upcoming vocal festival.

This is a perfect job for me. I am good at sight-reading so I can learn a lot of music quickly and I don't have to practice a ton. I'm not in the spotlight. I just sit at the piano and I don't have to talk to a lot of people (though I am friendly when people come up to me.) I don't have to be IN CHARGE of anything! The director leads the rehearsals and manages the group, and I just show up and do my thing. My ability to hyper-focus helps very well in these situations because I am always *right with* the director who doesn't have to wait around for me to catch up, which makes it easy for them to work with me. :D

Good job on you for getting out there and ice-skating, too. I remember how scary it was to first get on the ice. You will be going along smoothly in no time if you keep at it! Have fun!

Thank you! Now that I know I can skate, I want to do it again.

Recently I had to finish a hard piece of work, so I spent a few days last week getting it done, and I have never felt more proud of myself.

Awesome. Doing assignments is so stressful and hard, but I always feel glad where they're done.
