Last night, I conducted an unstructured experiment: When I held an adult-sized stuffed bear (yes, there is such a thing) on the left side of my body and hugged it, I smiled and felt comfortable. However, when I held the same stuffed bear on my right, I did not smile, and my mood did not change. Therefore, I hypothesize that my left and right cerebral hemispheres are not communicating properly. Incidentally, there exists a condition called agenesis of the corpus callosum, in which those who have the condition exhibit signs and symptoms similar to those of people with autism. Do you think that this hypothesis is reasonable, given the evidence? If so, where can I get my cerebral hemispheres tested? If not, why not?

(By the way, please do not give me the already-debunked pop psychology answer that the brain is completely lateralized in every function. It is not.)

all I know is that based on research that says lefties who write with their pen top pointed away from them are more accident-prone and live on average 9 years shorter lives, I am guessing it is a brain communications problem of which the corpus callosum is the major player. I am one of those lefties.

I'm not sure. Personally, I think it relates to the tendency to cross hand over hand or foot over foot in a particular pattern every time (which is also true for NTs, as that old "interlace your fingers behind your back" game shows). Consider also the different feelings aroused by putting a left vs a right foot before a crack in the sidewalk, in or out of sync with your particular pattern. Maybe it just feels more comfortable and natural to hold something on one side than the other, and when it feels natural, you can ignore the actual "holding" part and focus on the object.
