Why do some folk think it's 'creepy' to be obsessed with dead people?

What exactly does "obsessed with dead people" mean to you? To me, it could mean anything: liking to collect statistics on dead celebrities, liking to see pictures of dead people, necrophilia, murder, etc.

I am a bit obsessed with my local towns cemetery (probably because my grandparents are buried there) and research information on people who have been buried there in the past and present so I visit the cemetery now and again to check out if there are any new burials

Ummmm, because they're dead? :)

People are supposed to have a natural aversion to dead bodies because they remind us of our own mortality and how we could just go at any time because we are fragile, pathetic creatures. It's also nature's way of protecting us from whatever killed them.

My mom has told me that sometimes she likes to read the gravestones at cemeteries just for fun. She's told me that sometimes she'll see several graves of small children who died a long time ago, probably from a now-preventable illness. I guess that helps remind us how much tougher our ancestors had it back then. But it's still kind of creepy.

I once read there are a bunch of unmarked graves behind what used to be a psychiatric hospital near my city. The place got closed down and demolished years ago, but apparently the graves of patients who died in the hospital are still there. But it's really sad that not only were people with mental illness sent there because their families didn't know what else to do, but they didn't even bother preserving their memories at all. :(

It's creepy to most people because most people fear death. It is unknown what happens after death, and more than anything people tend to fear the unknown.

Also obsessions can be creepy no matter what they are about, but some are more so than others. Death is creepy to most people, obsessions can be creepy, so obsession with death is definitely going to be considered creepy by most people.

I don't think that's really creepy at all. It seems like perhaps you are more interested in the lives of those that have died, and are curious about death. Death is part of life, and it's not bad to be curious about it in a healthy way.
