Ellothere, tek here and here's some of my ramblings on:
ai,
computers,
the human mind
and other things!

Before we start this is just my thoughts, I could be wrong about things, and it is almost guaranteed to be a disorganized mess so here we go!
P.S. I'm typing this on my mobile phone atm since I accidentally electrocuted my pc last week.

So I've been thinking...what makes us human?:
Ability to learn
Pain, both physical and emotional
Decision making, (pro vs con vs disposition)
Short term memory
Long term memory
Nervous system
Etc. I'll update this part later.

I've been thinking lately...a computer has:
Short term memory (ram)
Long term memory (hard drives)
Read/write capabilities
Sensors
Buses (nervous system)
Etc.
For reference an ai is not necessarily something that makes decisions but a program able to alter itself based on received data...think autosave in videogames
So I was thinking...to make an Ai that truly feels human, you wouldn't need one that interracts with humans but one that acts on the human level. . .
We at wrongplanet know what it's like to go through a meltdown either to overstimulation, either physically or emotionally so why not apply that to this scenario...
One of a computers main flaws is the fact it can't feel emotions...pain...etc...or can it? What if we've been going about it all wrong....to make it feel pain make it a priority, something that grabs more and more of it's attention (system resources) depending on the severity of the whatever is afflicting it...combine that with an ai that is focused on self preservation it will do whatever it can combining past experiences with what it's experiencing to come up with a solution (like when you cut yourself and do first aid)
Think of a virus in a computer bow it slows everything down by using resources needed for other tasks
Another thing to think of is pain tolerance; in regular Humans we can learn to block off some signals, or lower/increase the intensity of them. Like how a child can die from shock touching a hot stove to how a man can walk across burning coals w/o flinching
In other words what I'm saying is

Pain = sensitivity = sensors with varying degrees of sensitivity
How it relates:
A program designed to take up more processing power (attention) based on the signals it received while also adapting to the signals stored in long term memory

Another thing is decision making;
As humans we get a lot of our ideas, thoughts and perspectives from our experiences, e.g. someone who is always told they're good for nothing may end up spending their whole lives trying to prove to the world they can accomplish something, on the other hand someone who is given everything and is always being told they are great tend to look down on their pears and hold themselves above the law.

Oh I almost forgot to mention, with the advent of 3dprinters, medical technology etc. We can easily see that a human is made up of parts, so another topic to discuss I guess would be like computers, what are the implications of designing a better human body? (Aesthetics, functionality, etc.)

Lastly, and I know this is gonna be a bummer; but I can definitely see technology getting to the point where Humans become obsolete themselves; once we get there the only two possibilities are either a life of luxury or life as you see with the homeless today. I believe however the only thing holding us back from such technological beliefs are our morals as society, religion, as well as our human nature to refuse change.

I have lost my train a thought (got a phone call while writing this) so...I'll most likely update this again sometime in the next few months or so.

P.S. I am horrible with forums (mainly I just hate logging in, or forget to visit) and usually tend to just lurk and read responses.
So...yeah if anyone wants to share their thoughts go right ahead I'll lift my flame shield high and bear the assault!
