So Ticker and I had din din together today and then determined to go some place quiet (I mean: we are aspies, don't need the mall! especially with my CAPD) and talk aspie stuff.

So to a nearby lake where wde stayed in my truck as we are each half lame today. Good aspie fedllowship and talk about many things. At the moment the topic was cryptozooology.

Then lights! Much fear and consternation. Was forest service "law enforcement". Up to my truck. What are we doing here? And we are aspies and both scared witless and many questions and it was unpleasant as the two of them had us surrounded and all that.

Finally they were apparently convinced that we were not fatherrapers or horsetheives or such and left. then they came back!

I don't know why there was no '08 sticker on my plate - but there wasn't! and more being looked at as if we are martian terrorists by way of the 8th dimension, And I was tag current - must have come off, but I am AS and rattled and I do not KNOW for sure that I had paid this year and. . .

Well, finally they left, again. I waited a few mins, 'cause I sure did not want to see them again, and we went back to the city and each of us home!

I don't know about Ticker, but I think the incident took a year off my life!

Nutbag speaks the truth! I had just spent 40 minutes writing my missive of our little adventure and the WP server crashed. This time I'm saving it before I hit send.

Nutbag and I were just hanging out at the lake after having dinner and then going on what Nutbag fondly refers to as MotorHiking. Both of us have bum legs at the moment and using walking sticks so we couldn't do real hiking.

We decided to watch the sun set at the lake and then watch the stars while we sit and discussed no doubt very illegal topics of jet propulsion, astronomy, time travel, 3rd dimension portals, cryptozoology of North America, encounters with mountain lions, bobcats, bear sightings and so forth. I'm sorry I really didn't know it was against the law for two old geeks to sit in the dark and talk about science. What exciting lives we lead.

Right as I'm discussing the disappearance of the ship Elderidge's crew of 64 the cops pull up and shine a spot light in the truck. I sensed it wasn't a good time to do my "beam me up Scotty" routine. The male officer quizzed Nutbag relentlessly and his female partner came over to my window and beat on it scaring me nearly senseless. (Honest to God the first thought in my mind when she knocked was "Oh no it's Sasquatch!" & I nearly hit the floorboard for cover) After we figured out she wanted the window down, she quizzed me for awhile wanting to know how long I lived there and where I worked. Why the hell did that matter? What did we do wrong??

The male officers starts to walk away then he whips back around beaming his flashlight into the truck cabin and said "what are you carrying a rifle around for?". Both of us go into Aspie female hysterics "there's a rifle in the truck? where? oh god where is it? how'd it get there? get it out of the truck!" only to have Barnie Fife realize the "rifle" is actually my metal hiking staff which I offer to let the officer examine.

So finally we thought they were leaving us alone only to have him come back to question Nutbag about registration and made her step out of the truck. Turns out he didn't get to write her a ticket because her registration was current and all paid the sticker just fell off the license plate or something. The lady cop was shining her light in the cabin I dunno what she was looking for the most incrimidating item in the vehicle was a pile of individually wrapped hard candies. We had not been drinking, we do not do drugs and the strongest substance we had consumed was some cherry dipped ice cream cones from Dairy Queen. Oh God I knew there was something in those that makes me act weird! Sugar! Then the cop goes looking under the truck and behind the fenders. Were they looking for secret missles?

I wished I'd thought to tell Nutbag to pop the hood so they could get a good look. But then again they didn't seem to have a sense of humor. They seemed like they wanted to arrest somebody for something to make their night worthwhile.

It was all very upsetting. I don't know what they thought we were up to. Is it really illegal to sit and talk? There's just no peace and quiet at home where we live so we wanted to get out in nature. All I know is I feel like we were harrassed relentlessly for no reason. I have a bad heart as it is; I didn't need this stress! Next time Nutbag we need to do something less dangerous looking. Two Aspies talking is apparently very suspicious.

Glad you posted, Ticker! I had been so rattled that I didn't even recall all of it. Out of body experience.

I'm just glad they didn't find the anti-gravity booster module under the back bumper. Damn those Earthlings! Nothing but trouble, the whole lot of them!

Furthermore I doubt these beings are ready for the cancer cure which we were going to give them.

Wow! That would have scared me senseless as well. Lady cops seem to treat me worse then men cops who just want to pat my head for some strange reason. See! It is not safe for Aspies to be together! Whenever my best friend and I go out, it's instantly a fiasco even when we are doing the most innocent of things. Maybe it's the double whammy of our presence? They can't seem to take it. I guess we do appear slightly as though we are lost in space. If only we had something to make us invisible when we are out with our friends.

Well, good luck finding a safe haven to talk Aspie things!

i agree with calandale. in theory, cops are nice and okay (and some of them for sure are, and i have even met one or two of them), but this job seems to attract a certain kind of person... yuck.

in a town nearby, there was quite a problem with radical right-wing youths. they used to gather in a cafe (a beautiful and cozy cafe, on top of that), then walk around the twon and either meet some punks or hip-hoppers and beat the s**t out of each other. usual police method was, when meeting one of those parties at night on the prowl, to have them either stay quiet and return to their respective "headquarter" (i.e. the punks to youth center, the right wings to their cafe, etcetera...) or come with them, maybe spending a night at police to get sober again, etcetera... worked quite well.
so, naturally, i was controlled more during that time, as my attire usually makes most people think i somehow belong to those misguided youths (black army trousers, paratrooper boots, occasionally a beret... as soon as they notice kajal and mascara, plus polished nails, they get my point).
one day, i was meeting up with friends from a theater group for whom i was making their stage design - and the leading teacher picked just that cafe to meet up. so, i park my car, get out, just to have a police officer tap me on the back and ask me if i am a member of the army. i look down on myself and tell him no, why, do i look as if?, to which he further asked on my beret, and i replied what the lady in the surplus shop told me, that it is perfectly legal to wear a beret. he then started to comment on my shoes and how nice they were and all so on. i didnt lose my temper and told him what he wanted to know, just thinking of him as probably having had a bad cup of coffee this morning. eventually, he let me go.
over an hour later, they turned up at the cafe where we were sitting, discussing stage details and so on, and told me i had to come with them, i was guilty of "unauthorized assumption of authority". long story short: they sat at their police station for one and a half hours to find something they could come back to me with (they admitted that) and really sent the whole thing off as an official lawsuit against me.
i researched and found out that what marks the legal authority of the soldier is on his shoulders (in german army) and in no case on his beret. the policeman, on the other hand, was adamant that if someone wore his cap, hed be an imposter and therefore, i must be one, wearing the cap of a soldier (the legal status of the police cap is something different, though...) however, the case was dropped, of course, because it just wasnt worth it, and i found out that it is forbidden for civilians to wear berets with insignia - not because of imposting, but because the military police is ordered to check if soldiers are dressed according to their dress code. if civilians start to wildly combine beret colors and insignia, it would be impossible for them to distinguish between private fun users and offending soldiers. so, now i wear my berets without insignia and everyone is happy.
it was quite the story, though... and all because cops NEED to do right were they suspect wrong instead of focussing on real problems.

so, i can pretty much sympathize with you two. been there. ;)

I'd LOL, but for the fear factor of it all ! ! This was in Northern Arizona USA? Were they sheriffs? Rangers? How did they know you were there?? Did they have the area under surveilance to arrest teens who might show up to smoke pot? It's probably a good thing you didn't try acting like lesbians, or they would've arrested you for THAT ! !!
Overall, USA police need to come to Britain and learn proper manners from our bobbies.

Richard it was just that simple :( - we parked over at the Lake in the parking lot before dark watching the water birds and the sunset. It got dark and we continued to sit there talking and enjoying the beautiful starlite night. That's all. We were not doing anything illegal as far as I know unless some new anti-autistic congregation law has been passed here. And no we weren't doing anything lesbian-like as Nutbag is not lesbian. The female cop however was a dyke and really trying to be pushy.

We couldn't hang out at my place because #1 Nutbag is severely allergic to cats & I have an overlyfriendly kitty and my apartment is so noisy with my dumbass neighbors hollering and their dogs barking that frankly I like to get away from it! You can only hang out in restaurants so long and talk after finishing a meal. Plus its hard for me to hear in restaurants because I am hard of hearing. Hearing aids help some, but there is nothing to help the CAPD I have.

Nutbag said the vehicle looked like the forest rangers that have police authority. All I could see was their dang searchlight in my eyeballs. I think we were hassled by Barney Fife.
