Did anyone else hate swallowing pills when they were kids? It took me years before I was able to do so without gagging. Why did no one tell me that it's easier with cold, thick fluids?

I still hate swallowing pills, If I can I usually cut them in half. (I'm not sure If that has any effect on how well they work... <_<; )

So the doctor always gave me banana flavoured medicine which was disgusting.

Until I was about 8 or so I couldnt swallow pills. After that, I had to take so many, especially in my younger teens, that I can now swallow a handful with no problem.

Only really large pills like amino acid tablets. Those things are (big enough to be) horse pills. But generally, no. I don't have a problem with them. On a very rare few occasions, I have momentarily lost the ability to swallow for a few seconds. Which Ithink everyone experiences from time to time. But 99.99% of the time, no problem.

However, my NT ex-wife simplay has the worst time swallowing pills. She's very much afraid to swallow them. On many occasions have I stopped her from eating a slice of steak to comapre the size of the bite she was about to swallow and the pill, which is less that half the size of the piece of steak.

I still have problems with vitemins but am better with capsules.(and I chew my food over 30 times before I swallow,so the bite you take is not the same as the bite you swallow)

Never had a problem with them when I was a kid, could always swallow the biggest horse pills. But now... not quite so easy.

I have no problems swallowing pills, with or without liquid.

My mother, on the other hand, has to have a bite of food in order to take a pill. I don't understand how this works, but she can't do it any other way.

I have to take a lot of pills nowadays, so I've finally figured out how to do it most easily. I still gag on them once in a while.

I also hated (and still do) going to the dentist, as he would always make me gag with his tools. I guess I gag very easily. Even when I brush my teeth, when I brush my back, upper molars I'm likely to gag. The gagging isn't unbearable, but it presages vomiting, which I absolutely despise.

I had a terrible time swallowing pills as a kid and I still have trouble now. I've learned to use my fingers to shove the pill as far back in my throat as possible then I immediately drink water. I still gag sometimes, but not too often.

I also have problems with gagging when I brush my teeth or go to the dentist. I sometimes get nauseous from my gag reflex and I've actually puked while brushing my teeth...such a pain because then I have to start over again.

People say I take my pills weird. I take a mouthful of water, swallow HALF of it, tilt my head back, pop the spills in, and swallow the rest. I have to be careful though, otherwise the pill gets stuck on my lips, and gets soggy. Yuck.

My 20 year old always has had a rough time with pills. If he has to take a pill, we always handled it like you do when you're trying to get your dog to take a pill -- we mask it by wrapping the pill in white bread. For some odd reason, that works better for him. Of course, we have to control the urge to stroke his throat as it goes down the gullet, though . . .

I've got used to doing that, since I have to take 12 of the buggers every day. The tiny ones still give me some trouble, though, since they often don't want to be swallowed and I have to take at least two sips of water to get them down.
