Whenever I wake up, I have been dreaming. It doesn't matter if I've just drifted off, or I'm fast asleep in the middle of the night. It doesn't matter if I've been woken by something, or I've woken naturally.

I've been to a sleep lab and my sleep pattern is normal. But as far as I know, dreaming all the time is not!

Anyone else out there experience this?

I'm not concerned or anything, I like it. But I can't actually imagine what it would be like to wake up and not feel as though things have been happening (i.e. events have been occurring in my dreams so it feels like I've been active, or at least my brain has). I've had a general anaesthetic before, is it like that? You just wake up and it seems like no time has passed since you fell asleep?

I have dreams almost every night, and when I don't, I actually have but I've forgotten what it was. I think I read somewhere that you dream almost every night, but you often forget so you think you haven't dreamt at all. I'm better at remembering my dreams, mostly because of how strange they are. Writing them down while they're still in your mind also helps.

My girlfriend dreams most every night. She tends to have multiple dreams cuz she wakes up a lot. She's on some meds including afew psych 1s so that might be some of it but I think she used to have dreams pretty regularly before she was on any meds.

Dreaming almost every night is one thing, but aren't you supposed to dream in only one or two of the stages of sleep? Surely then some of the time I would wake from a stage where I'm not supposed to dream, and not have been dreaming? But I always have been. Even if I don't remember the dream, I remember that I "things have been happening", i.e. there were stories going on in my head.

I remember a dream every night. Oddly, that didn't used to be the case, but ever since I started wearing a mouthguard at night to help with my jaw problems I remember far more dreams.

It's that way for me too, YellowTamarin. I can drift off for just seconds or minutes and I will start dreaming.
I mentioned that on here some years ago, and someone (don't recall who) said something about (paraphrasing here) unusual sleeping patterns (different times, short sleep periods) could change dream patterns so you'd dream immediately. I don't know if that is correct, but it could hold true for me as my sleep patterns are all over the place (when, length, frequency).

Hmm, interesting. I don't think my sleep patterns are particularly unusual, but I do sometimes suffer from hypersomnia which means I drift off when I really shouldn't, like during the day.

Something that feels like a dream isn't necessarily an REM dream. I usually go into a dreamlike trance before falling asleep. My mind forms many loose associations and pictures which start to form a story that makes no sense. These often but not always turn into dreams.

I dream a lot. Several dreams per night. I believe that's normal. It's just that most people don't recall their dreams as often.

I find that whether I simply drift off for a 20 minute power nap, or sleep a full 9 hours I always awake mid-dream.
I often wake up several times a night and every single time I am coming round from a vivid dream.
So much so that I often struggle to differentiate between the dream and the waking world for several seconds.
After discussing dreams with various friend and family I have found that most people do not experience this in the same way, and also have much more realistic dreams than myself- in that they will often dream about mundane every day occurances that they also perform in real life.
I never have dreams like this.
I do believe that the way people with autism/aspergers and various other conditions brains are wired allows for a more vivid imagination and a different thinking process, and this for me would seem to explain why I have much more vivid and outlandish dreams.
