I have a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and while I used to OMG! want to study killers like Dexter. Lately I've reflected on the true facts of the field. Where people turn on the news and see every latest thing I took a crime and media course and know it talked of the era where you knew ONLY the local neighborhood and how the media developed this fear based culture around crime!
People scoff at cartoons but I'll never forget a quote from The Flash "Granny Flash always told me you can't do an eye for an eye then everyone would become blind."
Yet regular people tend to think this. OMG! cut there dick off (in rape cases) OMG! who would want to hurt a child!
Uh?
They are small CHECK
Innocent CHECK
EASY to manipulate/handle/hurt CHECK
Who WOULDN'T want to hurt a child they are AN EASIER TARGET!
Yet MOST people look at Psychology (X had a mental illness) or Sociology (how you are supposed to behave in groups "my daddy said you'd shouldn't kill/hurt OH PRAISE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!)
Uhm! Take you in a time machine people USED TO KILL JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT!
PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE! Ages ago it JUST HAPPEN and there was no EMOTION tied to it or OMG! over it!
I stay away from true crime shows and a lot of crime fiction since I see it as it is ALL FAKE BS.
Having a degree and taking the courses I did opened my eyes to truly what the field is about.
(Does anyone agree?) on *insert field*
