Am I a misogynist?

Whenever I was watching Italian films from the 1970s, I always really liked the way the women would get slapped around a fair bit. And there wasn't the heavy judgment on the male characters for them having hit a woman (apart from to suggest that hitting anyone is bad, and that's what bad guys do).

You never really see that in films these days.

So, does that make me a misogynist, wanting to see women slapped occasionally?

Answers on a postcard please.

Yeah...I have to second that question. Why?

Because they're hoping people will reply that "no, they are not a misogynist". But I don't think there's going to be any straight answer to that question.

Well, reason being, is that I was thinking about all the Italian movies I've liked, and a surprising number had women being beat up in them. They were bloody good films otherwise, full of men with proper moustaches and nude women and car chases and all that lot, so that may have clouded my judgment.

I don't like the idea of the women I know in my life getting slapped around, by the way. Apart from Rachel, and she'd probably like it.

Only the ones in the fillums that deserve it.

I think the film maker wanted you to feel a slap was appropriate, like when the bully gets punched in the face at the end of the film.
Don't carry that into real life.
Everything in films is for entertainment purposes and we all see our own version of films.
Some couples engage in slapping each other for sexual purposes, maybe you should investigate this.

Well, no, obviously. But I did enjoy the woman getting the occasional slap when she transgressed the villain.



Well, no, quite. Some people experiment with needle play and all sorts of horrible things. Bleh.

Regarding the bad guy hitting the woman, it's meant to make you dislike the badguy even more, not arouse you.

I have no idea what 'needle play' is and, frankly, I'm not going to google that.
I've done the hot wax on nipples though, WTF is that about?

It didn't arouse me, just gave me a "ha ha" feeling. I'm quite childish, really.



That's quite a tricky one, I believe. It needs to be done with the proper supervision.

I used to see a lot of American movies where a woman gets hysterical and the hero slaps her across the face pretty hard,
Disaster movies and noirish detective movies I think.

It's not like women are innocent angels but slapping seems to be the wrong way of dealing with it
