Why is it that in Stuart Little the humans can hear the mice talk, but not the cats?

I don't know, I didn't like the story much, anyway. I have Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little and The Trumpet of The Swan all in one book. I fell in love with Charlotte's web as a kid and The Trumpet of the Swan was a really good story too (forget the animated movie, ugh), but Stuart Little had hardly any plot until the bird Margalo shows up, and then the ending just left me hanging there. In the book after Margalo's sudden disappearance it says the family questioned Snowbell and he insisted he had nothing to do with it, so that made me kind of confused.

No I haven't seen any of the Stuart Little movies and I don't plan to.

I've always wondered that too. The humans can interact with Stuart and Margalow like they're other humans, but not with other animals like Snowbell. Hasn't it ever occured to the humans to wonder if Snowbell could talk, if Stuart can?

Still, I do like the Stuart Little movies. :)
