brat camp - should newcomers be accepted without questioning
I saw it on TV. There's this place in Utah where they accept troubled teens. the kids arent allowed to brush their teeth or take a shower for first three days. they're forced to walk for miles in the snow carrying a backpack so heavy that some of them need help putting it on and some fall down and barely get up. they're awakened at five in the morning and ordered to roll their sleeping bags in five minutes or they'll have to do it all again. they dig holes in the ground because there's no bathroom. once they were given applesauce only for dinner.
most of those kids are very violent, and some have threatened their own parents with violence, and their parents are afraid of them. some are drug dealers. some drink and stay out all night.
but one boy was sent by his mother because she claimed he was lazy and didnt want to do chores, and another girl was sent for no real reason, it seems.
the person who runs it always says to the kids when first meeting them, "I dont care why you're here." the camp is for a few weeks or a month or two, i forgot. if the kid doesnt obey every order, he'll have to stay another round. the parents send them there. it's always with the parents' consent.
do the people who run this brat camp have a duty to question whether or not the kid is a troublemaker and completely out of control before accepting him/her? should they be forced to do it?

I understand that some kids need something like that but my parents would of sent me to something like that if they knew about it because they were extremely frustrated with me because of my many meltdowns as a kid so I voted that they have a duty to question the reasons.

My parents were also frustrated with me because of my aspie traits, especially my failure to make friends and to 'be like everyone else', which was a big thing with them. following the herd was very important to them. however, they would never have sent me to such a horrible place. they were too protective of me.
at some point, my father was thinking of sending me to a boarding school, but changed his mind. however, boarding school i think isnt so bad like such a terrible place like brat camp. still i dont think taking a kid out of the house is such a good idea. i think boarding schools should be the last resort to abused or abandoned kids, like a children shelter.
