Hi, I post this here 'cause I didn't know where else to put it.

I don't remember if I brought this up in IRC last time, perhaps, I'm not sure, but I did discuss this with Talby. Thing is, I'm 15, I'm soon going to be an adult aaaand I'll have to pick what to study at the university. Soon.

And that's the problem! I don't know what to pick! Sure, I know I shouldn't be too worried about it now because it's too soon. Or should I? No idea, but hell, let me elaborate: there are two things that I wanna do with my life. One is being a theologian. I love religion. I love God more than anything else. He is my reason of living and I want to live to please him alone. And second, I want to be a game show host. Oh goodness, I srsly want to be a game show host. Like Alex Trebek. Or, or, Pat Sajak. Or, or, Christ Tarrant. Or, or, Davina McCall. Oops, forget about the last one.

But, because I'm living in poverty in a country that doesn't work, I'll only be able to pick one thing to study. Assuming I can earn my scholarship, 'course. And thus I'll have to choose.

Theology seems more important to me, in the objective sense: God is greater than all of my problem and I owe him, like, a lot. On the other hand and in the objective sense I want to be a game show host in the sense of I want to be one I want to be one!

WTH should I do? Thanks, God bless, etc.

make as much moolah as you can when you're still young and energetic enough to do it. then when you are sitting pretty on a pretty pile of dough, start studying theology at that point, when you can study it at your leisure.

Learn science instead and then you may discover that theology is just fiction, make believe and mythology anyway. Plus you'll be able to find a job at the end of it.

You absolutely convinced me. God obviously doesn't exist. I've been living a lie and nothing else. Thanks for changing my life.

Next?

Plan B. You could always do something that included both your interests: Why not become a TV evangelist? Plus you'll get rich off all those believers donating money and you'll be able to afford your own mansion, fast cars, jewellery and private jet plane. There. Sorted. It seems to work for lots of preachers in the USA. :D

I said I want to live for
God, not for my ass using God as a tool.

to the OP, my suggestion that you make your money while you can before devoting the rest of your life to god is not out of the blue, it is a well-worn path, that in this world you can do a lot more good with money, than you can without it. money is a tool, money is energy, that if you have it you can greatly amplify your force for good in this world. just sayin.'
per another poster's suggestion, you could, if you have TV skills and entrepreneurial skills, I am sure you could persuade some rich religious type that you could create and host a cable tv game show devoted to religious audiences, a sort of religious game show, perhaps a bible-themed challenge show? or a serious show about biblical precepts/ethics applied to everyday living situations? sort of a "what would jesus do" thing? it could be educational AND entertaining, what a concept. :star:

I earned my BA in Bible & Theology at a small, liberal arts Christian college. I can't decide for you what the best choice is, but I would advise you to think long and hard about what you want to achieve with your degree, and let that guide your choices.

If you plan to go on and earn an M.Div or M.A. in religion, you could become a pastor or maybe a professor somewhere. If you're only planning to get a BA or BS in theology, you may want to think twice about your career plans. Having a liberal arts degree does have value (providing the school is properly accredited), but it's not going to provide much opportunity in the way of a job.

If you're not sure, maybe you can pursue a minor in religion, or double major in another field that does have a clear career path following graduation. I speak from personal experience when I say that you don't want to end up in debt from loans while working in a low-paying position for years to come.

Both are terrible choices. For one thing, you can't study game show hosting, it requires no special skills. Maybe you can go into acting or comedy.

Theology isn't a real subject, you might as well major in Game of Thrones.

You cant major in game show hosting. But you can major in media (radio/TV). Or (as someone above pointed out) you can study drama, or go into comedy.

Maybe you could start a UTube channel in your spare time, and host a Biblical game show with yourself as host on it. Biblical Jeopardy.

You might not consider theology a subject worthy of serious study, but it absolutely is a real subject and a serious academic discipline. One needn't even be religiously devout to have a keen interest in, say, historical theology.

Let's not let personal prejudice invalidate something that others find to be a source of fascination. Regardless of personal bias, there's no question that theology has played an important role in human history.

Television or Theology ... ?

Tough choice. With either one, you could make up stories, tell them in from of a camera, and keep people entertained all over the world while raking in scads of money. You might even end up owning your own global broadcasting network!
