I wasn't planning on going, but last week my brother's friend bailed and they couldn't find someone to sell the ticket to that they wanted to camp with that could get the time off etc so I told my boss I got a free ticket and camping (nearly $600) so peace out cya Monday and they were cool with it.

Extended review: Snoop Dogg is lazy - just seemed like he didn't really put any effort into his performance. Cypress Hill was great. Ice Cube was really good, too. Datsik, Flostradamus & DJ Snake were all good. Billy Idol, The Killers, and Pearl Jam were great, too. Missed out on Bass Nectar, Wiz Khalifa, and several other shows.. but I did catch several more I haven't listed. My overall favourite was the show with the BEST energy going throughout their entire set: Die Antwoord. They were a little less weird than expected, and EVERYONE was REALLY into it - SO GOOD!
There were more people there than expected, too.. record breaking 180,000 over 4 days w/ an average of 45,000/day. Very cool experience to attend such a huge festival in an amazing mountain environment hosted by a town with a population of ~2400 people.
Sadness, though.. A mere ~5 hours or so after Eddie Vedder told us all to stop killing each other and start loving each other instead, there was a fight in the staff campground that resulted in someone getting bear sprayed and the guy who did the spraying getting stabbed by the sprayee. The ~21yo stabbing victim is in serious condition. Scary stuff.
Also, I'm impressed that there weren't any drug/alcohol overdose deaths with the nearly free-for-all that went on over the weekend.. one of our camping neighbours woke up in a hospital room in Whistler on Sunday morning and then came back to party. What a diehard! He did a few drugs, but also thinks he may have been drugged with something else. Not cool.
Oh, and if you've ever heard of the legendary Pemberton Chicken Fights - they are a very real thing! lol. Seriously... people jamming the walkways beating drums and taking turns squaring off in "chicken fights" perched on others' shoulders until someone goes down. Mostly a bunch of very young tough guy scrappy kids probably high on cocaine. These things go on from ~2-6+am in the morning! I was mesmerized Friday night watching these people go at it until 5am lol such ridiculously captivating frat boy fun.
Overall it was an amazingly positive experience and I'd go back again.. however, I'm not 100% sure I will go back again before going to other festivals. There are SO MANY huge music festivals these days and I'd like to go check out other ones - especially relatively local ones like Bass Coast, and Shambhala (which is only ~5000 people & all EDM) & maybe some others in the USA like Electric Daisy, Burning Man etc.. time & money will tell whether I attend any of them at all next year, but it would be nice to go to a different one every year or two with various festival friends. I think the next one I maaaay go to is a one night rave on new years in Vancouver called Contact - mainly because so many gay boys go to that one.
