why do places that are open 24/7 365 days a year have burglar alarms?

some people aren't very observant.

sometimes, alarms notify not only the staff working there, but local police as well.

In order to qualify for insurance, or for lower insurance rates, many companies must have burglar alarms, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, handicapped access, and a number of other requirements. Many towns/cities require that businesses have insurance before they will let the business open it's doors to the public.
